This gallery was created by 750 students in BIOL 3030 (Biochemistry) at the University of Virginia as a 15-minute extra credit assignment. Each student researched a biochemist and then used AI image generators to create Studio Ghibli-style trading cards celebrating their contributions to science.
The goal was twofold: help students learn about the scientists behind the discoveries they study, and give them hands-on experience with AI prompting and image generation. In a large lecture class, projects like this help build community and make the material more personal.

Students used various AI image generators including ChatGPT/DALL-E, Gemini, ImageFX, and Midjourney, with varying results. We apologize in advance to any scientists whose AI-generated likeness missed the mark. We're working to improve the cards over time.

This website was built in a couple of hours using Claude Code by the course instructor, who has no coding expertise. It's a testament to what's possible with AI-assisted development and "vibe coding" - describing what you want and letting the AI handle the implementation.
